About Michael Sweet
Self-Taught Artist, Pointillist Painter in Acrylics for over 30 Years
I am an outsider artist, not taught in the traditional sense. My impetus comes from within, removed from the conventions of common expectations. My goal is not to share personal angst, nor challenge the viewer to a reality that may only exist in my mind, but rather to provide a place for contemplation. Ideally, my paintings instill stories created in the genius of the observer.
The process is the goal and it’s not about patience. If painting my works took patience, I wouldn’t paint. The hours it takes to complete a piece is but a moment of reflection. I paint with acrylics because I blend colors before the paint is applied to the canvas. With my technique of layering dots upon dots, the textured paint must dry quickly.
